How to Kill Bed Bugs with the Vaporetto Steamer:
Despite their resistance to many common pesticides, bed bugs are highly vulnerable to heat, regardless of their life stage — adults, juveniles, and eggs alike will die when exposed to sufficient temperatures. While exposure to at least 120-degree heat will kill bed bugs within minutes, 180-degree steam will kill them instantly. This susceptibility makes high-pressure steam treatments a highly effective part of a bed bug solution, as steaming can quickly cut down the size of the infestation wherever the bugs and eggs are hiding.
While many upholstery steamers and other common cleaners lack the temperature and pressure needed to consistently deliver lethal heat, the Vaporetto Smart 100 is powerful enough to penetrate into soft materials and kill hiding bed bugs with ease. Using the steam adjustment dial located on the steamer's body, you can tune to the ideal pressure for different surfaces and treatment areas.
For mattresses, sofas, and other upholstered fabrics, use the bed bug tool, a cotton cover, and low pressure. This maximizes heat concentration and eliminates excess moisture and pressure. For cracks and crevices like baseboards, floorboards, windowsills, and more, switch to the jet tip tool. Use high pressure for door frames and windowsills, and medium pressure for mouldings and the edges of the carpet. Remember to move the steam nozzle slowly - no more than about one inch per second - to ensure that the heat is distributed consistently.
Use the jet tip tool and medium pressure to treat baseboards, floorboards, and the edges of carpeted floors.
Wrap the bed bug tool with a cotton cover to break up excess pressure and moisture to focus the heat on bed bugs hiding in upholstered furniture.
Turn the pressure up to penetrate into cracks and crevices along furniture edges, windowsills and door frames with the jet tip tool.
