Bed Bug Supply Review - see what our experts have to say about this product

We are now offering low profile box spring encasements from SafeRest, which fit up to 5.5" box springs. Of all the box spring encasement brands we’ve reviewed, SafeRest's are by far the most advanced and highest quality on the market with full protection against bed bugs, fluids, dust mites and allergens. SafeRest was also tested with live bed bugs and are certified bed bug proof. Encasements are important as they seal off the mattress and box spring eliminating potential hiding places where bed bugs may reside. They also prevent bed bugs from escaping the encasement leading to their death by starvation.

SafeRest box spring encasements are made with a thick polyester fabric back coated with a bed bug proof membrane layer making them the strongest box spring encasements we've ever tested. Having a high quality box spring encasement is very important when dealing with an infestation as they are far less likely to tear or rip along a metal bed frame. Also, once installed, you can’t even tell that the box spring encasement has been applied with their nice fit and completely noiseless construction.

SafeRest Encasements offer two features not available on any other encasement. These features include their patent-pending 360° Secure Zipper feature, which prevents the end zipper traveler from pulling back by securing the zipper traveler with a Velcro flap. The other exclusive feature is their advanced Micro-Zipper, which prevents even the smallest infant bed bugs from passing through. SafeRest encasements are also triple stitched to protect the integrity of the seams.

Bed Bug Supply Team

Product Information

The first line of defense:

Bed bugs earned their name by being more commonly found hiding on or near the bed than anywhere else in infested homes. Bed bugs feed on human blood while their hosts are sleeping, then hide in a tight and secure place to rest, digest, and reproduce. If left unchecked, a small number of bed bugs with access to a nightly meal can multiply into an infestation in just a few weeks.

SafeRest mattress encasements and box spring encasements are essential to the process of making your bed bed bug proof. Bed bug encasements seal off the mattress and box spring, eliminating those common hiding places that bed bugs use to breed and to avoid treatment efforts.

Rather than disposing of expensive mattress sets, SafeRest bed bug proof encasements can be used to seal off the mattress and box spring, trapping any bed bugs inside and preventing them from escaping. Over time, these trapped bed bugs will die of starvation due to the lack of a blood source.

When designing their encasements for bed bugs, dust mites, and fluid protection, SafeRest selected only the finest materials and developed their own exclusive features. The result was a breathable, noiseless encasement that prevents bed bugs, bacteria, dust mites, and fluids from passing through.

This premium level of protection has helped thousands with allergies and asthma to improve their health by providing a more sterile and allergen free sleep environment. SafeRest encasements have also helped others to protect and treat their mattresses against bed bugs. Finally, those who suffer from heavy night sweating or have children, pets, or incontinence have benefitted from SafeRest's breathable waterproof design, which blocks all fluids from passing through.

Premium Features:

360 Degree Secure Micro Zipper
360° Secure Micro Zipper

SafeRest's patented zipper and enclosure completely seal your box spring on all six sides. The micro zipper spans three sides of the encasement for easy installation and removal.

The micro zipper's teeth that are too small and close together for bed bugs to fit through. The secure velcro enclosure seals off the end of the zipper to ensure there are no gaps that bed bugs can enter or escape through.

Ultra-smooth Polyester Cover
Smooth Polyester Surface

While other encasements use low-cost materials that rustle and retain heat, SafeRest's designers went out of their way to ensure that your sleep experience would be as quiet and comfortable as it would be without a box spring cover.

SafeRest's knitted polyester surface design is soft, smooth, and noiseless. Polyester resists sagging and tears while allowing air and heat to pass through.

Waterproof Membrane Layer
Waterproof Breathable Membrane

Protect your box spring from fluid spills like sweat and urine with SafeRest's exclusive membrane layer. This unique design blocks any fluids from reaching the box spring while still letting the box spring breathe to prevent heat buildup.

SafeRest's waterproof membrane is free of vinyl and PVC. It has no phthalates or fire retardant chemical treatments. It's perfect for children, allergy and asthma sufferers.

Installation:

Installing a SafeRest bed bug encasement is very simple, but may require two people since it involves lifting the box spring from the bed. Before you begin the installation, remove the encasement from its packaging.

SafeRest Encasement Install, Part 1

With the help from another person, remove the box spring from the bed frame and lean it upright against the wall.

SafeRest Encasement Install, Part 2

Unzip the box spring encasement on all three sides and wrap the short, unzippered side over the top of the standing box spring.

SafeRest Encasement Install, Part 3

Gently pull the encasement down so that both sides of the box spring are covered, and begin closing the zipper.

SafeRest Encasement Install, Part 4

Set the box spring back down on the bed to finish closing the zipper, and use the velcro enclosure to seal off the end of the zipper.

Care and cleaning:

SafeRest's Premium encasements are designed to last for many years if cared for properly. By following the included care instructions, you'll be able to take advantage of all of the protection and health benefits offered by these encasements for the length of their 10-year warranty and beyond.

Note that SafeRest's 10-year warranty covers manufacturing and fabric defects, and will not cover damage caused by failing to adhere to the care instructions.

Wash on warm or hot setting

Wash the encasement with the rest of your bedding at 95° Celsius (200° Fahrenheit), usually reached by the medium or high heat setting of your washing machine.

Dry only on low heat

Tumble dry the encasement only on low heat to avoid damaging it. Temperatures over 55° Celsius (130° Fahrenheit) can melt or warp the waterproof membrane layer.

Do not iron or dry clean

Do not iron or dry clean the encasement. The high temperatures involved will melt the waterproof membrane layer, causing the encasement to no longer be waterproof.

Do not use bleach

Do not use bleach or fabric softener when laundering the encasement. Bleach, detergents containing bleach, and fabric softeners can damage the waterproof membrane layer.

Questions and Answers

Q: Is this protector available in Twin size?
Asked by: AH - 3/8/2014
A:
We do not have low-profile encasements available for twin sized box springs at this time. We expect to carry additional bed sizes in the near future.
Q: Is this product appropriate to cover a new 3" memory foam mattress topper?
Asked by: Mary - 8/23/2014
A:
No, a box spring encasement should not be used on a mattress or mattress topper. The best method of covering your topper would be to put both the topper and the mattress in the same mattress encasement.
Q: Do you have 5.5" California King size (72" x 84")low profile box spring encasement?
Asked by: David - 11/25/2015
A:
Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not offer low profile box spring encasements for California King sized beds at this time.
Q: All of the low profile encasements you offer are 5.5 in depth. The low profile platform box spring device I have is only 2 inches. Will that extra space be a problem? My fear is the extra material will provide folds of material and places for bugs to hide. The idea of taunt/ tight not sloppy seems to offer better security. Do I need to buy 5 inch low profile box springs?
Asked by: Help - 2/7/2016
A:
Our low profile encasements will work just fine with your short box spring. There will always be a risk of bed bugs hiding on the surface of an encased box spring, since there will always be spaces between the mattress and box spring for them to hide in. With that in mind, encasing a mattress and box spring is not a substitute for inspecting, treating, and isolating your bed with other products.
Q: I have carpet bugs and assume the encasements will help protect from them too. Correct? Also my Box spring is 6-inches deep not 5.5. The mattress with pad is 12- inches. The set is queen size. Do you have something that fits this set? Thanks.
Asked by: Robert - 7/14/2016
A:
While they haven't been tested for carpet beetles, they are roughly the same size as bed bugs so the same protection methods should still apply. The 5.5" box spring encasement can stretch to accommodate a 6 inch box spring with no issue.
Q: my Box spring is7.5-inches deep not 5.5.Do you have something that fits this set? Thanks.
Asked by: dan - 8/3/2017
A:
Our standard 9-inch box spring cover would work, but it may fit a bit loose if your measurement is accurate.
Q: Do you offer the low profile box spring encasements for a split queen box spring set?
Asked by: Connie - 3/22/2019
A:
I apologize, but at this time we do not offer any products that fit split queen box springs.
Q: Does it come in regular twin size? I am looking for a cover for 4 inch memory foam mattress topper.
Asked by: Sue - 6/22/2019
A:
This listing is for an encasement designed for box springs, not mattresses. Ideally, you would measure the mattress and topper together and then get a mattress encasement tall enough to fit both.

The 5.5" low profile cover is great. I sure wish I knew it was available before I bought the regular 9" cover! It fits like a glove and very easy to install.

SafeRest Zippered Certified Bed Bug Proof Low Profile Box Spring Encasement / Cover l
I love this box spring cover. I ordered it for my new low profile box spring primarily because it also keeps out dust mites and other allergens. The construction of this cover is excellent. The zippers are strong and once you slip the cover around the boxspring and close the zippers you can easily see that the entire cover has no open or poorly constructed seams. I am about to order another for our guest room.

Nice covers
We had bedbugs a few years ago - courtesy of a very nice hotel. The exterminator (who used heat) put covers on all of our mattresses, but we recently got a new set for the master BR and we wanted covers to start with, as a precaution. I initially wanted to stick with the brand they used, but this was the only brand I could find that had an encasement for low-profile box-springs, which our new set has.....and these SafeRest Zippered Certified Bed Bug Proof Low Profile Box Spring Encasements also had a better warranty. As it turns out, I like these better than the ones the exterminator uses. (The only minor benefit of those was that they had a loop that they zip-tied the zipper to so the sipper couldn't come undone, but the velcro flap these have over the zipper end seems plenty sufficient.) Only time will tell if they wear well, but the fit is good, the construction is good, and the matching mattress encasement doesn't affect the comfort of the bed one bit.
