Question: Do hotels have to answer truthfully when asked if they have had any bed bug infestations or reports?

Bed bugs are a major issue nationwide and there is a good chance that many of the hotels we stay in each year will have had some bed bug room infestations. I believe there are now laws in place for parts of New York that force apartment complexes to disclose bed bug records, but this may not apply to hotels. Each state has there own hotel regulations so I would check with your state agencies to find out.
This being said many of the hotels you stay in will likely not disclose the fact that they have bed bugs for fear that their business would go under if word got out. Hotels have and will always be a hot spot for bed bugs given the frequent turnover of guests from night to night. Items that greatly reduce the chances of being infested after a hotel stay are the PackTite, luggage spray and Hefty big bags.
